FABRIC SPECIFICATIONS

FABRIC CHOICES: Bobinett, Silks, Grid Cloth, Lame, Grifflector, Matthflector, Griffylon, Muslins, Screens, Frosts, Hi-Lites, Matthbounce, Solid, Lightbox Diffusion.

BOBINETT: Single, Double, Black, White, Silver, Gold, you name it and we've got it. Matthews nets come in four different colors with varying properties. Black bobinett in its single form will reduce light intensity without changing the color temperature of your shoot, with twice that as a double. White bobinett will reduce the direct light in your shoot and soften that effect by introducing ambient bounce, with again twice that effect as a double. Both White and Black bobinett are treated to be flame retardant, and the doubles are sewn by the industry standard technique to eliminate a moire pattern that may adversely affect your shot.

Offered ONLY through Matthews, you can also purchase ColorNETT, a new bobinett of gold and silver variety that will lower the Kelvin temperature of your shoot (gold) or raise the Kelvin temperature (silver). For example, ColorNETT is perfect for that shot at the middle of the day (gold) where you need just a little more warmth to match the rest of your film.
All Matthews bobinetts are available in any size you want and can be purchased both by the yard and the bolt

SILKS:Matthews offers three types of silk in both white and black: Artificial Silk, China Silk and 1/4 Stop Silk. While the properties of each vary, they essentially all have the same purpose, which is to be used for medium diffusion at varying degrees. White Artificial Silk offers the most diffusion at a light loss of 1.6 stops with a significant amount of ambient bounce (its counter, Black Silk offers no ambient bounce). China Silk is 1 stop light loss and 1/4 Stop Silk is about 0.6 stops light loss. The safety characteristics of each of these silks vary per the table below. Available in any size you want silks can be purchased both by the yard and the bolt

GRID CLOTH:Matthews offers 3 types of Grid Cloths, from standard Grid Cloth to Lite to 1/4, and of course Silent Grid Cloth to Silent Lite to Silent 1/4. Many users will prefer to use Silent Grid Cloth outside on a windy day to cut down extraneous noise. Matthews Grid Cloths are available in 54" width fabric and are treated to be self-extinguishing. Available in any size you want they can be purchase both by the yard and by the bolt.

LAME: The Matthews lames are ultra soft reflectors treated to be a self-extinguishing fabric that will give you a subtle reflective bounce. While both fabrics brighten your shot without being harsh, gold lames will give you a warmer effect. Lames are also available in a checkerboard pattern which offers the benefit of the punch of the silver fabric along with the warmth of the gold. Available in any size you want they can be purchased by both the yard and the bolt.

GRIFFLECTOR: Similar to Lames, Grifflectors are also soft reflectors just not quite as soft. As will Gold Lame, Gold Grifflector will give you a warming effect. The counter to the Grifflector is our very own Matthflector, seen below. Grifflectors are also available in a checkboard pattern that will again give you the benefit of the punch of the silver fabric with the warmth of the gold. Available in any size you want they can be purchased by both the yard and the bolt.

MATTHFLECTOR: Matthflectors are similar to both Grifflectors and Lames in that they will give you a reflective bounce, however, the effect is not subtle. Gold and Silver Matthflectors will provide a hard reflection, with gold offering a slightly warmer effect. As with Grifflectors and Lames, Matthflectors are also available in a checkboard pattern which offers the benefit of the punch of the silver fabric and the warming effect of the gold.

GRIFFYLON: Don't be fooled by other competitor's products! Matthews is the only company in the industry to carry griffylon approved by the inventor of the diffusion. It comes in three combinations of black and white to give you either soft, shiny, or flat reflection. See below for the types and properties of each. Available in any size you want it can be purchased both by the yard and the bolt.

MUSLINS: Muslins come both Bleached and Unbleached and in the case of 12'x12' through 20'x20' sizes you can purchase an overhead / butterfly with or without seams. A bleached muslin is a flat reflector whereas an unbleached muslin is a warm white reflector. Both can be used for bouncing a soft light or as a very soft diffusion type of textile. Available in any size you want they can be purchased both by the yard and the bolt.

CHROMAKEY AND DIGITAL BLUE / GREEN SCREEN:Chromakey and Digital blue and green screens are what make up our new Blue/Green Screen products. Purchased separately with the black foam backing that eradicates nearly all light leakage. Matthews customers may also purchase blue / green screen back to back for double the use as well as blue or green single sided screens in either Chromakey or Digital. Available in any size you want it can be purchased both by the yard and the bolt.

SILENT FROSTS AND HI-LITES: Silent Frosts will give you a soft, slightly diffused light with no ambient bounce, creating a light soft glow that's perfect for outside shoots as it is virtually noiseless in the wind and holds its properties even in wet weather. Matthews Hi-Lites are the best in the business, giving you soft diffusion similar to Silent Frosts yet with the option of being either welded or sewn. Both these products are available in any size you want.

MATTHBOUNCE:Matthbounce, commonly known as Ultrabounce, is a dual fabric that will give you a soft, even bounce on the white side with no hot spot, and as a counter to that a flat, non-reflective black side. Like many of our other textile products, Matthbounce is treated with a flame retardent for safer use and is availalbe in any size you want.

SOLIDS: The Solid, also known as Duvetyne, is the heaviest fabric offered and will give you 100% total light loss, impenetrable by unwanted light. Treated to be flame retardent as are many of Matthews textiles, solids are available in any size you want and can be purchased both by the yard and the bolt.
