How many crew members do I need to run this setup?

A two-person crew (gaffer/DP and camera operator) can typically load in and light this setup on their own, since only stand needs bagged on the lighting side.

Why use a Boa Bag instead of just adding more sandbags to the boom?

The Boa Bag hangs directly on the working end of the boom arm, so its weight counterbalances the softbox in the same place as the load. This is safer in that the load is balanced on the arm, not jus the base. Plus, the Boa Bag provides versatility where you can both hang it from the hook on the end of the boom, or if you do not have a hook, you can wrap it (constrict) around the extended arm.

What's the benefit of the Digital Baby Stand over a standard C-Stand for the boom side?

With a 58 lb capacity and 163" max height, the Digital Baby Stand can support a heavier softbox on a boom at height without the wobble or bowing you might get from a lighter-duty stand, while still packing down small enough to be maneuverable on location. The Digital Baby Stand's footprint is wider, providing a more solid and stronger base.

Can I run the Mini MAX without bagging the base?

We do not recommend that you setup any stand without bagging its base. The Mini MAX in particular creates an offset load due to its booming capability; and while the base and riser of a Mini MAX do have some weight to them, the safest and best option is to bag Mini MAX on the base.

Do I need a track bracket support in the middle of the slider?

Depending on the length of track setup for the shot's movement, you may wish to have a third level of support in the middle to prevent the track from bowing and disrupting the smooth shot. Matthews has created the Mini Slider Stand for this purpose - the leg footprint on this stand will not exceed the width of your track. A third track bracket mounted on the Mini Slider Stand will provide the support needed.

What's the purpose of the Apple Box and Topper combo for the operator?

Sometimes also known as a 'princess pad', the Apple Box Topper has a utility pocket on either side to hold valuables, notebooks, an iPad, bottled water, or pens. This is a cushioned, non-slip surface for when you need to take a seat, and t comes with a secure strap you can use to carry the seating unit from one place to the next.
